CAMERA
I use a Nikon Coolpix 990 digital camera. It is very light
and compact with 3.3 megapixel quality. I have taken thousands
of photographs, for business and pleasure, with this camera
with outstanding results. I carry a super-fast charger (1.5
hours) for AA metal nickel hydride batteries used in the Nikon.
PANNIERS
I chose Vaude front panniers. They are ideal for the Moulton
- lightweight, compact, fully waterproof with snap fasteners
for small diameter tubing.
CAMPING
The lightweight 2 person tent and my sleeping bag are manufactured
by Macpac in New Zealand. The Nautilus tent is like Dr Who's
'Tardis' - small on the outside but the inside is big enough
for ballroom dancing. Whether it is a chilly night or a balmy
summer's evening the Meridian sleeping bag allows you to adjust
the down within the baffles for a comfortable nights sleep.
Their equipment is rigorously tested in extreme conditions.

WATCH
My Casio Protrek watch doesn't just tell the time. It's an
altimeter for mountain passes (or underwater cycling), it's
a thermometer and barometer that confirms you are completely
crazy for riding through the desert when it's hot enough to
fry an egg on the road. If you are heading the wrong way or
trying to navigate through a maze of roads, the Casio has
an electronic compass. I am not sure if it can make a decent
cup of coffee but I'm sure it can point me in the right direction!
MUSIC
I like to listen to music. The 'blues' when it's raining!
Pink Floyd while plummeting down a mountain at breakneck speed
... so I have an MP3 player. 10 hours of good quality music
on each CD.
BICYCLE ALARM
One of the problems when cycling alone is security. I need
to visit shops or a restroom without carrying all my bags
and spending most of the time worrying about my bike. I searched
the Internet and magazines for a bicycle alarm but found nothing.
In the end I decided to create my own alarm. The result is
very small and light 8 cm x 5 cm (study the picture in the
laptop and left). If anyone touches my bike or bags an audio
signal will send dogs running a mile away. It's brilliant,
and something I could have used 32 years ago.
